The registration period with the early bird discount for the Swiss O Week expired at the end of January. This event for recreational orienteers overlaps with the World Orienteering Championships in Flims Laax. With registrations for the event already at more than 3,000 orienteers, the organisers are very pleased with how popular the event is.
The first registration period for the Swiss Orienteering Week 2023 (SOW) ended at midnight on Tuesday, January 31. This multi-day orienteering event will take place in Flims Laax from July 16 to 22, 2023 – as a complement to the World Orienteering Championships (WOC), which is being organised from July 11 to 16 at the same location.
The organising team, headed by Swiss O-week President Marcel Schiess, is very pleased with the early registration numbers. The fact that around 3,100 people have already decided to spend their summer holidays in Flims Laax to take part in SOW, guarantees that there will be a good atmosphere in the race arenas during the final races of the WOC with thousands of orienteering spectators from home and abroad.
Around 63% of the participants who have registered so far are from the home country of Switzerland, while the others come from another 29 nations. Currently, the largest numbers from other countries are orienteers from the Czech Republic and Norway.
The final registration deadline for SOW is the end of May 2023. The deadline for the open categories is July 5th, although on-the-day registration will also be possible.
